I would like to weed out the good from the bad and have a couple teed up once I purchased. 2) Once a home is purchased and the remodel has begun how do you all know what colors to paint the walls, appliances to purchase, fixtures to purchase and general landscaping ideas.

Will the fact that I am replacing the fuse box trigger the need to upgrade all the wiring to code (I.e. add arc fault breakers, dedicated 20amp circuits to the kitchen, etc.)Frank's advice to contact the local building dept is the best advice.While you're in the process of doing so, I will just add typically I've not witnessed a service upgrade triggering anything beyond an upgraded grounding of the panel and arc fault breakers, typically the circuit upgrades to the appliance circuits (wall outlets at the counters in the kitchen) or circuit upgrades to the bathroom outlets is only triggered when permitted work is done in those specific areas.
