Down the road you can roll it into a Self Directed IRA and use that to invest in real estate, but in order to do that you typically have to leave your employer.At the end of the day it's a very personal decision.

it was low cost, i can turn attic into a few more bedrooms very easy. it was a seller financed deal from a friends self directed ira.

Also, at your age, you've got a good start, so I would recommend getting into the habit of saving 10% of your earn income into an account like a mutual fund or IRA that you can not touch until retirement.

My favorite tool for property acquisitions there was RealAcquisitions.com  I also learned a tremendous amount from attending the Quest IRA information seminars (which are free).
