there will be if there is any common area that is private ownership.. if not then no.I just went through this for my 90 home project.. there was one little strip of land that provided access to property i had to donate to the city for open space.. our engineer had it as a seperate parcels retained by us..

I've seen one situation where a second floor was added that had the same layout at the existing first floor - it turned out to be a simpler process, though it still involved underpinning the foundation and of course all of the engineering and permitting requirements normally required.Also be aware that, depending on the age of the existing structure, you may have to deal with geotechnical.
