The best way to fight those I have done are argue their valuation and offer to buy the asset well above their appraisal price or get an appraisal of your own. 

I get that often the numbers support investing more but others argue the peace of mind of paying off your own mortgage is entirely worth it. 

In terms of AP I would argue that VA is just as good as NV and a lot less expensive too.

That would lend more credibility to the arrangement IMO and it would be much harder for someone to argue that you are just lending the money to yourself...a prohibited party.
