With regards to building a 2-4 unit anywhere, has anyone been able to work with the municipality on the zoning to get the multi-family approved in a traditional single-family area, without it being a larger apartment complex?

I haven’t been pre-approved so before I begin that process does anyone out there have familiarity with this situation or any advice?

My question is, do I have to get section 8 approval as a landlord for the interim that I own the property before the section 8 tenants move out? 

You can start working with a real estate agent and get pre-approved by a lender, both for free.

We like the house enough to want to try and move forward, if we could even get approved.

Because of this I would most likely not have enough income to get approved for a larger loan needed to buy a multiunit.I live in California, and multi-units within the area and neighboring counties are more than I could qualify for on a loan(4k plus).

You should already have your finances checked out by a lender and even have the pre-approval ready.

I wouldn’t recommend cash out refinance for such debt or to sell your property.

At the moment we are screening prospective tenants and only allowing approved applications to view the property – this is to limit the contact within the units.

Zoning approval, neighborhood pushback, utility approvals, flood control, offsite street improvements may be required, engineering, etc.
