When we purchase a 120K property here, it will received full gut (studs out as you say) and when Humpy-Dumpty gets put together again, it will be with modern insulation levels, air sealing, Energy Star (tier II or III) Windows and Doors, LED lighting,    Since we are buy-n-hold types, if we sacrifice anything  due to budget constraints it will be trim level - something we can easily change later.We are at the painting stage of a full-gut, deep energy retrofit of a 1100 ft^2, 2-story attached unit {fire coded common wall} and are heating the entire unit with one 2000W electric baseboard at the moment (heat pump will not be commissioned until trim is complete).

@Matthew Buttner, I have a Ramset and have used it to fir out walls like you have pictured. 

I always try to open a wall up and make it a glass wall it is amazing how much bigger and less creepy :) the shower will feel. 

Most block walls have imperfections and chunks of mortar that will make it difficult or impossible to attach directly to the wall.

My SFR rentals where I charge rent of $1600 are pretty easy for me to screen and select the right tenants.

The problem can range from minor cracking in walls and ceilings to major distress caused by excessive foundation settlement.

Aren't there supposed to be a certain number of vents per wall space?

You tear into a wall and there is no telling what you'll find or what might happen.
