I've attended several, and IMO it would be easy to get burned if you don't know what you're doing.   1)  Generally, all subordinate liens get wiped out at auction.

So I think I will need to be someone who is involved selling properties or along that side of the business.While in my current home I do feel we didn't get burned but also didn't get a great deal.

Starting out by yourself without any money and being young is very hard and you risk burning out after not getting any results, so teaming up with someone who is experienced will give you a huge leg up on others in your situation.

A good starting point would be to look at who are the listing agents selling distressed, burned out, terrible looking, shells, foreclosures, tenant problem, etc. type properties and go meet them or talk to them on the phone and let them know your criteria.
