Because the loan was FHA, the lender was a little nervous I did my homework with comps as it had to meet appraisal and we offered $40K above list price. 

You should only do an inspection if you are seriously considering buying it and have done all the work up front necessary to get to this point of needing one (or if you are okay with spending a few hundred dollars from an educational standpoint)….do your home work..!

And they're asking questions that I have already answered a long time ago - Do I allow kids, do I have a yard, what size is my TV, etc....Is this just me, or are some others having problems as well?

There is a reason why most people rent and don't buy, its because they are on much thinner margins for being able to afford shelter, food, cars, kid needs, etc. 

Just be sure to do your homework!
