The purchase price is typically way to high for the condition of the property and without a good home inspection (which will run you around $600) dollars you can't spot all the hidden problems that you are sure to find with homes that are 80 years old and upward.

I think you could even use your realtor in your area to hunt down some gems that will be better investment options. single family houses possibly....

Always multiple offer, or close to asking offer comes in.Which I'm shock bc I'm thinking newbie.....these houses are a wreck or have hidden issues.Property goes contingent......And then active again..... investor saw inspection and bails.Or they took our concern and they realize its a problem....withdraws to deal with it.Or.....active, and I'm say hello, over here...resubmit offer, hello?

How much of this is hidden when you use a property manager?

There are alot of hidden costs especially being an expat (no tax benefit etc). 

I'm glad to know that this probably isn't a 'hidden gem' that I would regret not pursuing.

I haven't run any hard numbers yet but my dad on the phone pleaded with me for two hours last night that I should not invest into the place because of the hidden expenses that would pop up over time.  

In the end, nothing can be hidden from an experienced note buyer, it all will be uncovered so providing as much of the data upfront with inquires for pricing is a better way to approach the intent.

Even though a house looks good on the outside it can have hidden problems behind the walls.
