Here there would be either excavate and replace, yes a big to do, or drilling/installing concrete pilings (square 8-12") but then that means "beam" foundation construction, on the piers.

You tube has videos on removing old 70's tile (it usually has thick concrete like backing), you can also find videos on retiling floor and walls, installing tubs, toilets and sinks.
