If you're renting it out for $1k  month and their portion is $300, make sure they have at least $1k per month in benefits/ income. 

Hi @Gloria WashingtonThe benefit of going solar at the same time as a roof replacement is that the Federal Tax Credit (currently 30%) applies to the roof as well as the solar system.

So, the benefits you would get from working with a experienced and motivated local agent that has insights to what areas fit your investment goals would be something you would still be missing even if you did get your RE license.

You let people join the controlling entity with authority to exercise control because they bring skills to the table that you can benefit from. 

Again diversification is an added benefit to that.
