Governor Brown signed a bill that starting 01-01-12 if any employer is found to willfully misclassify a worker as an independent contractor, they penalties will increase to $10,000-$25,000 per violation. 1099-K Rules:  There has been a lot of confusion regarding the new 1099-K rules. 

Hi Bryan,I own STR's in Scottsdale and fortunately the Governor signed legislation to legalize vacation rentals statewide. 

@Jeremiah Fender  I don't expect our interest to align or be on the same page your in AG and I am a developer  LOL... and in your imediate area the state does allow larger projects. but over in the Willamette valley its tough.And then you have what happened in Washington county... the County and metro works 6 years on the new UGB and rural reserves... it gets appealed and the appeal is up held throwing 6 years of work by numerous agencies out the window.. and in a still to be unbelievable series of events the country Metro state and Governor in 2 weeks formulate and implement ( the Grand Bargain) and through out all of the planning that was done for 6 years redraw all the lines ..

Both candidates for Governor of CA say they want to build a lot more housing than is currently being built..but we all know about political promises.

Im not that smart but got an email from on accounting firm ( i make no representation on this but sharing as a point of view and leaving out the name  )The IRS announced on 12/27/17 that prepaid 2018 property taxes will not be deductible in 2017 if they have not been assessed. https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-advisory-prepaid-real-property-taxes-may-be-deductible-in-2017-if-assessed-and-paid-in-2017The IRS announcement was in response to recent reports advising individuals to make a prepayment of 2018 property taxes on the national evening news, 12/27/17 cover of the wall street journal as well as the governor of New York bringing in additional employees to accept prepayments.

I have bought rentals in a couple of different areas and had success some areas I try to avoid are south governor to south Kentucky but then again just depend if it's a good deal.
