I would like to house-hack a multi-unit home and use an FHA loan, but unfortunately I just lost my job.

The primary reason is that you literally can't get at your money except under heavily-restricted circumstances. 

Unfortunately I needed to sell it to cover another investment home and now I'm reading about possible tax repercussions because I essentially am flipping the house after owning it for about 6 months. 

Unfortunately, I need a few more thousand to pay down on my mortgage before I can qualify.

So, yeah, you could say a hard asset is safer than cash in some circumstances if you're open to seeing that those circumstances are a possibility. 

@Kishor Y. these are all good questions- but the answer is unfortunately "it varies".

Under no circumstances should anyone consider an unsecured loan.

The unfortunate part is that you probably don't know. 

But yeah the Suncor issue is unfortunate (although it doesn’t just effect CC depending on which way the wind is blowing).

I highly doubt this tenant would stay there under those circumstances.
