The transition/implementation process was a real low point but the software itself seems robust and feature rich.

The note itself is a form of asset protection - there isn't much to collect if you have little equity.You should read Every Landlord's Property Protection Guide: 10 Ways to Cut Your Risk Now - you need to implement this anyway, before looking into complicated/expensive asset protection structures. 

The key is implementation of what you learn and the execution.

Pay attention to everything @Jerryll Noorden says and read all his old post and just start implementing. 

They wont be as stringent on needing your NMLS license up front, but a broker will be. 

Please keep in mind those are 2-3 sentence descriptions of very complicated and new tax rules, so don't go off half-cocked and try to implement them without getting some real advice from a tax pro.
