Consider having it etched - either acid or sand-blast - to change the appearance.If you MUST paint, please use some neutral color - nothing which stands out.

My agent has recommended a thousand or so, but if I really want the deal and I'm coming with cash, trying to close fast, and I think it's a home run, I feel comfortable putting up 1/3 with the ability to get out of the house if I don't like the way it smells or the color of the door.

These buildings (potentially 5 of them) share common walls and are on the same block.  

I have not purchased anything in Wilmington yet, not knowing the areas well enough is kind of spooking me because things can change within just a couple blocks there.
