Such a joint venture would need to be very rigid in nature, and there could be no transactions or exchange of benefit between either party.Both parties would need to purchase an asset jointly on day one.  

You should be able to get a prorated tax-free exclusion for the 573 days that you lived in the property as your primary residence as long as those 573 days were during the last 60 months (five years).You would only qualified for a 1031 Exchange transaction if you had moved out of the property and held it as rental, investment or business use property for a period of time to show/demonstrate that you did in fact have the intent to hold the property for investment purposes.

As for me, I had a pretty specific set of financial parameters, since I was doing a 1031 exchange.

In any case, we agreed to break the lease in exchange for forfeiting the security deposit.

I think inflation will still remain high in Argentina and the peso will continue to deval in the next few years...but, with the upcoming elections in the fall, many are predicting the release of many currency restrictions which prevent firms and individuals from exchanging local currency for USD and remitting back to the states.

Instead of diving in to the first one do you think it would be advantageous to take my money and invest it with a more experienced renter/flipper and see if they would be willing to show me the ropes in exchange for the capital?

I am an investor that invests in different asset classes (real estate, stock market, historical currencies, businesses, etc.), so I am extremely well versed in the stock market, money management and risk management. 

I try to exchange as much information as possible early on, so that I can get an idea if there's a fit for my next project (whatever that is).
