We are also looking for a place to buy for ourselves within the neighborhood, but the supply in the area is very scarce, the people who come to buy here leave their brains at home, and there's little opportunity for finding enough space sufficient to monetize.

I allocate a percentage of my monthly income to my living expenses/fun budget, and focus more on staying under that percentage every month, rather than going down to the nitty gritty individual expense...I've found that to be less restrictive which works better for my brain.
