We hired a decorator to furnish the house from scratch with inexpensive but cohesive pieces with calm colors. 

Have you considered just replacing the bad pieces and painting a nice, contrasting color?

I'm not sure where you are, but I am sure there's different colored trucks around, and everybody is looking for drivers, especially mixer drivers.

When we were flipping homes, I would give my wife 2 or 3 choices (color of a counter, type of appliance). 

This is very labor intensive.(2)  The particular color of the floor is no longer available, even from third party vendors.  

All the heat duct covers have been removed.

It's costly but not as expensive as you might think (<$5K for duct removal).I question your attorney's advise.

They were built in the 1980s and had a peach color paint and red tile roof.
