Use two or more depending on how large the hole is, then you can screw the filler paneling into the 1 x's, caulk the seams, paint, and it disappears.

The likelihood is that the last 20 jobs they've been on have been sheetrock or painting though.I've NEVER seen a "professional" roofer put the first course on the right way.
