If something is "non-functional", that can easily be due to age, lack of proper preventative maintenance, power surges or brownouts, deterioration from the elements, and other typical failures.

Both are quality shows that answer investing questions, discuss success and failure stories, and apply to people starting an investing journey (not just REI).

Don't think that one particular out of state market will shoot you to success or abject failure.
