Probably minimal education, low income, no emergency fund, poor credit and/or in some sort of government assistance...for life because this is the USA and somehow people can do just that. 

Also when you say "I only want a blue car", and you ignore the hundreds of red and yellow cars that are available, you make life very hard for yourself.

But I wanted to make someone else’s life a little easier for more than half the price.

If you can afford 5% down, consider looking into those loan products as they can often remove PMI once you get to 20% equity whereas FHA PMI stays on for the life of the loan

If you don't want the property due to possibility of acquisition, you need to pay attention to the life of the lien. 

In real life, it was nothing but horror stories.

Read "Set for Life" by Scott Trench and make as few stupid moves in your personal life as possible.
