Just get a proper home inspection and investigate the basement quality, electric type (i.e. knob and tube, aluminum, ungrounded, modern romex), plumbing type (i.e. cast iron, galvanized, pvc), and just be overall ok with an older building material.

Aloha,So your "workaround" didn't work very long; you knew the system had problems that need to be addressed but failed to investigate possible options or obtain different proposals during the SIX MONTHS the system was jerry rigged; and now you are slamming PM's for being "reluctant to go out of their way" ?

Very few sellers will allow you to create a hole in their properties ceiling to investigate due to the liability involved.
