I'm pretty split between economics and business administration ( generic business degree).

Each form of REI needs more of some skills and less of others, butrental operations (buy&hold) needs people skillsall REI needs ability to do research on your own or to find the proper reference material is essentialsome degree of business accumin is required (invoices, POs, simple accounting)You can learn finance and legal stuff on the fly as you begin to need need them.Investments are not a natural endeavor so IMO, an investor is never born aka Calif's Eureka but an acquired set of skills from exercise.

Though I have a college degree, I don't foresee a future in which is plays a large role in my success.

I went to a college and I got a business degree that emphasized real estate.  

I even went to IPEC to further my personal development, not to get a degree.

I am a software engineer by undergrad degree and trade and i've got a JD hanging on my wall that I don't use for much more than experiments in how temperature variations effect dust collection rates. 

I have recently become enamored with real estate and just got accepted into a combined degree program where I will receive my Masters of Science in Real Estate as well as my undergrad finance degree during my 4 years here.
