In some states if an apartment isn't habitable and the tenant has to temporarily move out then you're not allowed to charge rent for those days.

When you're traveling to work, store, etc. take a different route ever day, take down addresses of houses that "look like they should be for sale", check out the county website, see where the mailing address is, send a letter to the owner.
