Maybe some slick lawyer will fight it in court if someone does something stupid when there's not an emergency, but conscience won't allow me to put these kids in a room without a means of escape.

My wife and kids don't have to figure out anything.

 $80k may seem like a lot to non-californian's but it's not enough to put food on the family table AND put kids through college.  

I am told some franchises up here do the same.They own the land & building & the franchisee spends the rest of their lives paying it off.Much like the young kids buying that big expensive house the bank owns for 30 years.
