I think the seller needs to think twice about denying the extension.

Who is going to waste $50 to be denied?

Are you legally obligated to give reason or even notice that an application has been denied?

It is hard to deny the appeal of 0% income tax and the overall quality of schools and infrastructure that is being put in place in Southwest Washington. 

I'm not an attorney, so I don't know the legal ramifications of denying applications on those grounds, but the work number is fairly new to the industry.In the past as a property manager, I've accepted bank statements, check stubs, Paypal statements, etc. to verify income & in some instances rather than using the work number to verify employment, the pay-stubs or direct deposits from bank statements have doubled as employment verification, but this was a rare case where we needed to get units filled to avoid holding costs.What the landlords did to "offset the concession" is require more money upfront.

A tenant not moving in potentially denied other tenants habitation, a lost month of rent (or more)., and many other costs. 

Clearly the emotional  involvement in my former family home is causing a problem and I don't deny it, but these people are taking advantage me. 

However, they not only denied my request but also charged me for another full year of their service, which I no longer required.

Good call on denying the application after finding the inconsistencies between the application and reality.
