my point is if you get sued.. ( and frankly after owning over 500 sfrs over a multi decade career I have been lucky never happened to me never once been sued by a tenant).. you still have to defend no matter what entity your in someone has to pay for your defense.. however like you said its a personal choice.. however most tenants don't have the money to litigate and 99% of these cases would never get taken on a contingency if its on a contingency you better have good insurance because you as the landlord probably did something very wrong.. think the Oakland fire a few years ago.. and if you think that landlord is going to hide behind asset protection I highly doubt that.. his name is all over the papers and he better have good insurance.
