Five years: own at least five properties outright.Fifteen years: own multiple multifamily units, preferably 50 plus units in eachRetire by 40: basically I want the financial freedom to travel or do as my family pleases without the headache of worrying if we can take six months, or a year even, to ourselves or not. 

I don't do the cheapest insurance, but I do want the best value and have used Travelers, Lititz Mutual, and a couple others in the past. 

I travel to Midland/Odessa on a frequent basis for work.

While I would say you're on the right track with your desire to invest out of state (Seattle really is pricey at the moment, like the new SF) I wouldn't get locked into investing somewhere just because you know people there or can travel there easily.

I travel all over the state to do this.
