for the wainscoating you could use the sheets from home depot that come in 4'x8' sheets I think they are 1/8" or 3/16 thick and pretty cheap, maybe 20 bucks a sheet. cap it on the top like traditional wainscoating. for backsplash use either tile or or linoleum. the wainscoating can be put right on top with some liquid nails and finish nails and the tile could be put right on top.

In the last ~2 years we have upgraded ~220+ units and our flooring in the bathrooms has always been either TrafficMaster Allure Vinyl Plank (the stick down flexible product) or 12"x 24" Porcelain Tile all depending on our budgets/community demographics.

In Eastern Europe there were bathrooms in homes where the entire floor (plus most of the walls) was tiled like the shower, leading to a drain in the middle of the bathroom, meaning a shower curtain is a matter of preference (some people like to keep the steam in, or might have bathroom electronics out on the sink, but it's not considered "necessary" as it is in our "standard" bathrooms), so this isn't even necessarily limited to folks from the "3rd world."

You can do that too, just be prepared with a storage space/warehouse or to get lucky on a lot of material. It's easy enough, just follow back from the guys that buy a lot of material in your area to the distributor to the manufacturer.I listened to a podcast one time with a guy who was rehabbing 100's of units of apartments in Texas and he started his own wholesale building materials company and was buying containers of vinyl tile from China and was selling to other apartment rehabbers in Texas.Could you do this?
