As far as the timeframe, it went about a month or so over the original 3-month timeframe mostly due to weather delays for the kitchen addition (needed because of the original REALLY funky layout), lol.

just did renos on a rental property, they had ceiling panels in the basement washroom, I went to see why the fan is so loud, and I found that they put the whole kitchen hood fan there :) it even had the working light in there

You could probably even visit some builder design centers where they usually have some kitchens and bathrooms already set up so you can see what all the materials look like together.
