I see quite a few homes in our area converted to have an additional dwelling unit, or a "mother in law" unit with a separate entrance.  

Hi @Carlos L. and welcome to BP.The Las Vegas market right now is very hot and it is very difficult to find a decent deal, especially with 2 to 4 unit dwellings.

The VA allows up to four dwellings on a single plot of land, and they're very easy to monetize, even with you living in one of the units.

Dwelling (limit is 1000, sounds very low to me, they are saying since it's a co-op and my other one is townhome, the HOA already covered it. but I believe I am still responsible for everything inside of the wall. 1000 seems very low. )in short, I plan to go out and buy the following 1. a landlord insurance for both myself and my mother2. a umbrella insurance for both of us.should that give us enough protection?

Portland area folks - I'd like to know if any of you have any first hand experience with Accessory Dwelling Units.  

I can't make a rental deal pencil within Seattle proper if there isn't a second entrance/kitchen/dwelling unit.

The law which prohibits AirBnB listings without the host present in NYC is the Multiple Dwelling Law and it IS actually legal at the state level to host people while the host is present.

Ballpark is $50k for the addition, and expected rent is $850.My home in SLC is luckily in a zone where accessory dwelling units are allowed.

This gives me a reason to go into the dwelling at their request, and although I'm not making an inspection, I can see if axe heads are being put through a wall or 3, and how they are generally living and treating the place.
