@Roy N. and Jeff Beard Thanks for your responses...you summarized the options well.While the property might be beautiful, if the numbers don't justify pursuit then the right thing to do is walk away.

You would be violating the law.On the other hand, if you put it under contract and sold the rights to the contract.  

One property in particular has 4 years left on abatement but the 2019 assessment is 243% higher than 2018's, and all of the other houses on the block show similar assessment increases.
