I think my dilemma might be that a small portion of the note (200K) was provided by the SBA, so they may have some sort of guidelines restricting us from borrowing against the business.

I guess I did not realize I could participate directly with a sponsor as a non-accredited investor, sort of tricky because they can't advertise to me, however I'm not aware of a place where I can go and seek them out (except maybe here).

I would guess that it's in some sort of tax situation and giving the grandfather money will not work at this point.
