My husband does agree with you as we really can not afford losing $300+ per month right now as we build our real estate portfolio.I completely agree that with already receiving money from the government that it would be more "fair" that she would have to be the one making the sacrifices to reflect the money she is receiving.

What your CPA has recommended is you receiving rent "income" in the form of a personal service barter, so you would still technically have to report the value of the chef services as rental income.Now it's true, most people don't report barter services, but in this case there is a vast difference between what the tax regulation states vs what people actually do.For example, as a CPA, if I do your tax return in return for mowing the lawn at my house, I would still have to value the amount of your lawnmowing and declare that as income.

It's important to shop around and consider not just the rates and terms but also any additional fees, closing costs, prepayment penalties, etc. as each portfolio loan product is different and they don't follow the standard guidelines put forth by the government-sponsored banks like conventional financing products do.
