You shouldnt have a big problem getting rid of the skunk smell especially if your remodeling and replacing carpets etc and painting but I would use a Kilz or my favorite is Bullseye 1-2-3 (has a stain, mold, moisture, and odor blocker). 

The only thing you need to know is whether or not there is lead paint in the house.

I didn't understand why until my agent told me that the seller was being sued by a previous tenant for not disclosing the Lead Based Paint Addendum.  

Different vintages are know for various problems ( asbestos, knob and tube wiring, lead based paint, polypipe, galvanized plumbing, etc.)Does landlord pay water or other utilities ??
