The success or failure of this type of investment is largely determined by WHO you are doing business with.In summary, I like the strategy but you have to do homework on the deal AND the sponsor, talk to references, obtain and verify track record information, and be prepared to NOT invest if things just aren't adding up.Good luck!

I am sure that one in a very similar situation could have found some other creative means to obtain the apartment building, still keep the 401k and have best of both worlds.Roth or traditional, a 401k or IRA is Not money in a hole in the backyard, it is a great tool that can be used to grow it using RE as the vehicle.

It's part of it, and the money has accrued over time from rents so our tenants are essentially paying the bill for us, but would hate that large of an expense to come up and not be prepared for it.
