In our case, these were small houses (25 x 30) {by today's standards}, and since we were trying to turn the basement into a living space ... just storage, the cost was not excessive.

I'm making the presumption that Britta would also factor in that her new city should also be a place she would like to live in as well.If I were in your shoes I would pick a area which I expect to have good growth but that is not yet outrageously expensive.
