It might be small like a leaky drain or clogged disposal, or big like the furnace going out and needing repair.  

If I drain the grease from a hamburger, for example, that grease can clogs the incoming or outgoing lines in a septic.

If you drain your checking to pay your mortgage down and run into trouble your mortgage is still due.

He keeps me in the loop every time a service call is made (leaking toilets, clogged drains, etc) and I pay him when he accumulates 4-5 visits.

While it is not an item that requires immediate attention - like broken windows, clogged drains or broken air conditioning...I usually fix whatever breaks when I can get to it. 

The upstairs bathroom has a leak at the tub drain - a slow but steady drip - the ceiling is ruined and it appears that mold is growing now.

No on the disposal - they get abused and cost you in plumbers coming out to clear drains. 

And ontop of all of that the washing machine drain is jacked up and the brand new mixrowave is not working right.
