We have a 1957 built house which had foundation problems when we bought the house in 2016.

I rented a house townhouse that had a flowerbed built along a neighbor's wall.

Built in 1950, it has a new roof, new heating and air, all new electric and other than that the rest of it looks original and beat up.

So a brief backstory: army spouse, business/accounting background, moving several states (two time zones) away, four young children (6 and under), do not plan to work when we move (not anytime soon anyway).My husband and I only have this 1 property that was built in 2013 but will be looking to invest more down the line.

My inquiry had more to do with how to analyze the worthiness of a lot to build on rather than what can be built. 

Accruing debt by a person who is irresponsible and has a low financial iq is like giving the town drunk a loaded pistol 

Okay, I found a property in my town, great location, 1900 sq feet and I think it will rent easy for 1k. 

No point living on the other side of town if you have to commute 30-40min every day.

I guess that makes sense, since I would depreciate a house by 27.5 years when I put it into service, not based on how much life a house has left if it was built say, 100 years ago for example. 

The company has not had enough time to build any capital, as I am out of town for the rest of the year.
