Just too many clues are missing without the human interaction.

I know life shouldn't be that way - but people still think of pregnant women as high-maintenance hormone-poisoned humans.  

They're just another human being.

Too often, we as landlords, forget the human aspect of our business. 

Give him an opportunity to speak to you civilly, maybe he'll open up, or if nothing else, see that you are a decent human and don't deserve to be harassed.

That same day I got a call from the local Humane Society asking if I was the  landlord for the address, and that the woman had been in there to adopt a cat and listed me as landlord.

You can be firm while still being fair and humane.

Usually, an abandoned property is quite derelict and unfit for human habitation.   

That would be the humane and decent thing to do if you really want to do right by him, if you chose to invest in this tenant.

And I was Gen X (as you can tell by my dated references) and these were Baby Boomers, raised to be absolutely certain that they were the most important generation in the history of civilization, certain that we were nothing but human garbage.Since that time, I've put a few pushy boomers in their places when I felt they deserved it.
