It's a good way to get a bad reputation if something goes wrong. 

The agent will also be the one front and center on all of these offers, which tends to put their reputation, at  risk.

So what could look very reputable to one seller may turn another off.

If you truly had a "good" deal someone would buy it if you did the work to get the property out.There are a few ways to wholesale but only one way a great wholesaler builds a great reputation and that is the grass-roots route path of finding a serious buyer and doing everything you can to understand them, their process, their ideal investment type, their ideal investment market, and then finding a property based on your buyers criteria.

IMO: If you want to build a reputation as a wholesaler who doesn't know their numbers then sure, give it a shot.

You are more likely to ruin any chance of true investing if you try to start with wholesaling since your reputation is everything and wholesaling incorrectly can quickly ruin your reputation with sellers, buyers, agents, attorneys etc.. and then that's about it for you.I know it sounds stupid but wholesaling is something that comes to you more than you trying to figure it out with no experience..
