@Nick HarringtonThe fitting that @Jeremy Pace recommended will not work for connecting to a cut section of galvanized like you are asking.

You may be able to find someone who run it through their merchant account for a cut.

It only took a week to fix it up, but sat vacant until January, longest by far, and it's a cute 3/2.5 single family with one of lowest rents in neighborhood, so we factor that in now and don't buy in the fall.
