The turnkey operator turned out to be a convicted felon running another scam (actually I think it was a legitimate business for some years - they renovated and sold thousands of foreclosures, but must have gotten in over their heads).  

@Mark Werner the bad tenants with some angle like to try to find the newbie landlords to scam. 

If he refuse, he’s scamming you.

They were literally so dumb that every text, voice mail and email they sent further showed they were liars and scam artists with an ever changing story.
