There are many ways to pick up experience and education and they all have their costs. 

You have a plan, are organized, educated, have a partner, and seem extremely eager to succeed which to me makes for a great future in REI!!

I am an educator in the Asheville area and I am new to BP and to real estate investing.  

My goal is to educate myself enough to achieve this goal.

Me personally, I think the education you are going to receive is going to be worth far more then squabling over how many hours a week you have to work.
