Owner said it has updated electric and copper plumbing newer forced air furnaces and c/a conditioners and some more updates. 2 of the 6 units are vacant and 3 units are being rented at $900.00/month with one unit being used to house the property manager.

I do recommend to use inspection, especially since I am abroad investor.In addition, the inspection report help me to make sure the contractor quote covered all major issues, and I also use the inspector to visit during the rehab to make sure the contractor finished each construction stage.Investing ~$250 in inspection in compare to the money you invest in buying and rehabbing is not major and reduce your risk.Good luck.

The manager would know if the property is rent ready and safe, or if it would pass the inspection for a rental permit, they would be able to recommend contractors and oversee the work needed.
