If there's potential that they'll work with you, then a trip to the local building permit office would be in order.  

You'll know very quickly if they have an INVESTOR-friendly Loan Officer you can talk with.ie.

If you feel it is a legit concerns I would consult with local police or other security expert to see what where the property is most vulnerable the best use of of your money is to address it.

I would see the job being a couple of days in the office and a couple of days at properties.

However, when the appraiser, whom BofA hired, came to my house, he submitted the report to my Lending Officer at BofA that I needed to re-paint and fix some of the damages on the exterior of my house before I could qualify for the loan.
