Your best option is to recommend an unbacked synthetic carpet that does not hold water.

I was looking at some synthetic samples, and they just looked cheap.

For me, engineered wood or bamboo flooring + adhesive is as far as I'm willing to go in the synthetic floor dept. for this project.
