Hi Rick,I've seen some DIY leveling that involved setting the house on car scissor jacks, cinder blocks, wooden roofing shingle shims on top of stacked lumber, tree stumps and rock piles. 

If you can use scissors, a razor  knife and a tape measure without needing a trip to the hospital, you'll do fine on your  own.

You can use a scissor truss.

Carpet squares are easy to install just have straight edge, tape measure and a good pair of scissors.

"Sliding" can also be taken care of with some rubberish linears - something you can get for a few bucks at Wally World and can install with a pair of scissors in <15 minutes. 

I'm going to bake cookies, set up a Christmas tree, make gift wrap, scissors and ribbon available next to it.

. ;)Full set of pots and pans, 6 different skillets, wok, large roasting pan, 2 steamers, 2 coffee makers, 2 keurigs, 24 sets of plates/bowls, many glasses (wine, beer, drinking, tall, short, margarita etc), 12 sets of kids plates/bowls/cups, 3 sizes of ZipLoc bags, aluminum foil, parchment paper, Saran Wrap, 24 sets of silverware, many serving spoons/forks, 16 different knives, mandolin (veggie slicer), knife sharpener, scissors, 3 meat thermometers, 6 whisks, dough scrapers, chop sticks, 4 casserole pans, 4 cake pans (round, square, rectangle), 4 bread pans, 8 serving bowls, baking sheets (1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 2 of each), air fryer, crockpot, espresso machine, 2 blenders...the list goes on.Also a bunch of small appliances like mixers, hand blenders, waffle makers, single egg cookers etc etc.

As for your debt being like a domesticated lion, I prefer the analogy that debt is like a pair of scissors -- yup, it's possible to kill yourself with them, but if use them intelligently, you'll find them to be very useful with very little risk.Unfortunately, we learn in Kindergarten not to run with scissors...but we don't learn about the responsible use of debt/leverage in school.  

Or scissors... whatever works best
