What Chicago neighborhood would be most ideal? 

Chicago, with its vibrant neighborhoods and strong rental market, is a prime location for this strategy.

. - You can get more units in the City of Detroit, but you will need to understand the City's demographics or you'll get taken advantage of.City of Detroit has 183+ residential Neighborhoods.

The other is a smaller operation which does a lot of business in the specific neighborhood the house is in.  

I don't allow any infomercial-style sales pitches at our meetings (ok, it might not be that bad but I just imagine some events being like an informercial!)  

For what you are trying to achieve you'll want to stick to the suburbs and a few choice neighborhoods on the West Side of the city.
