@Tony F.If you are, the family of the decedent will probably not file a petition for probate until approximately 2-3 months after the publication of the obituary.To legally purchase the decedents property then petition for probate will have to be filed and the PR will have to be confirmed by the court.During the 2-3 month period grieving, duress, confusion, etc.,  is going on within the family and no one is in their correct state of mind..The PR (Personal Representative) is the person you'll have to contact as they are responsible to distribute assets including selling the property.They make the decision on which real estate agent they choose to hire to list/sell the property and/or which wholesaler they decide to work with.
